More and more people have become interested in sports betting lately and the activity is becoming legalized and more accessible in more and more venues. It is no wonder, then, that sports betting is beginning to hit the world of PGA golf as well.
Golf Betting Announcement
A recent announcement from Sports Business Journal has shaken up the golf world because of what it means for the future of televised golf. Here is the statement:
Sportsbook operator PointsBet will provide live betting odds during PGA Tour telecasts on NBC, Golf Channel and Peacock as part of a three-year content and marketing extension that also will include sponsorship of a free-to-play prediction game scheduled to launch in January.
What that means is that sports gambling is becoming part of televised golf coverage, and it sounds like it’s here to stay.
Fans will now have access to betting information, including live odds, quickly and easily when simply watching golf events on television. This is likely to encourage more interest in golf betting as well as more viewership of the sport in general.
The Rise of Sports Betting
Sports betting is becoming more popular and common as more and more states begin to legalize gambling and more sports begin to televise live betting odds. And it’s no secret that sports betting brings with it a ton of money. This year in New Jersey alone, the state recorded $427 million in sports betting revenue, just for the month of August. With numbers like that, it’s not hard to see how sports betting in golf could bring a whole new level of interest and support to the sport.
We are excited to see what this new development does for the sport of golf as a whole, and for the PGA in particular. In the meantime, you can catch us out on the fairway practicing our game in hopes of improving our own betting odds.
