Koepka Takes the Victory

Brooks Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship, marking his fifth major title and his third PGA Championship victory.

While there was some stiff competition between Koepka and Victor Hovland during the final round of this year’s PGA Championship, Koepka eventually came out victorious thanks to his seven birdies throughout the day. Koepka ended the championship with a score of nine-under, just two shots ahead of Hovland and Scottie Scheffler.

This win makes Koepka the 20th golfer in history to win at least five major championships. Koepka had the following to say about joining the ranks of these historic golf pros:

“I look back on where we were two years ago, everything that’s gone on, I’m just so happy right now that I’m kind of at a loss for words.To be with those group of names is absolutely incredible, something, I’ll be honest, I’m not even sure if I dreamed of it as a kid winning this many.”

Scheffler & Hovland Tie for Second Place

Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland tied for second place with scores of -7. Both golfers fought for their lives and played some amazing golf before reaching second place in the end. In the final round, Scheffler went from 7 behind Koepka to only 3 in just 30 minutes. This effort turned out to be too little too late, but you’ve got to be impressed by the hustle!

Hovland also played an amazing final round, meeting Koepka stroke for stroke for much of the day. Koepka eventually broke away with a string of birdies and secured first place, but Hovland was not far from the victory. Upon finishing in second place, Hovland said:

“First place is a lot better than tied for second, but it is fun to even just have a chance to be one of these. Just making the cut and finishing 20th, you know, that’s — you haven’t played poorly, but you’ve been a non-factor in the tournament. So to be in the last group, that was my second time and been in contention for three of these. That’s pretty cool.”
