This year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open took place at Mount Juliet Estate in Kilkenny, Ireland from July 1st to 4th, 2021. Highlights from this leg of the European Tour included an emotional win for Australia’s Lucas Herbert as well as some great golf from the rest of the players on the leaderboard.
Lucas Herbert Wins
Australian pro golfer Lucas Herbert came in first at this year’s Irish Open with a final round score of 68. After his experience at the Irish Open two years ago, this year’s win was especially powerful for Herbert, who said, “It’s an unbelievable feeling. It’s just so—it’s a bit fulfilling, really. I felt like I was at one of my low points in my life when I played here two years ago at Lahinch in the Irish Open, and now to feel like I’ve done full swing and come back around and won the event that I was at a pretty low point at, it’s pretty satisfying. I’m very happy standing here right now.”
We love to see players really appreciating their wins and acknowledging the ways that they’ve improved and grown. Lucas Herbert is a great example of someone who does just that.
Leaderboard Highlights
The Irish Open 2021’s leaderboard saw some excellent players in addition to Lucas Herbert, with Sweden’s Rikard Karlberg coming in 2nd place and the United States’ Johannes Veerman bringing in 3rd place. This marks Karlberg’s best European Tour performance in the past 5 years, leaving him proud and excited to see what’s to come.
29-year-old Johannes Veerman played a strong game and was rewarded with a third-place finish. This young American golfer is one to watch in the years to come.
