This year’s Hero World Challenge, held in Nassau, Bahamas from November 29th to December 5th, was a great tournament with plenty of action.
Viktor Hovland Wins
Norwegian player Viktor Hovland played an amazing game and came in the winner by just one shot. Hovland was delighted and surprised by his win.
“Honestly, when I first teed off and obviously got off to just making a few pars early on, I didn’t really think winning was even in question,” said Hovland.
Hovland closed with a 6-under-par 66 to finish at 18 under, just one shot ahead of Scottie Scheffler (66). Patrick Reed (69) and Sam Burns (69) both finished At 15 under. This victory moves Hovland to number 8 in the world.
“It’s crazy to think that I’m, you know, playing the PGA Tour,” he said. “It’s pretty incredible just from thinking back to where I grew up and playing golf in Norway, you’re playing golf six months out of the year and it’s pretty far-fetched to even just play golf professionally coming from Norway. So for me to be here and winning tournaments is pretty unreal.”
Collin Morikawa’s Rough Patch
Many people expected Collin Morikawa to easily sail to the top spot at this year’s Hero World Challenge, but Morikawa ended up finishing in 5th place. For whatever reason, Morikawa was having an off week (it happens to the best of golfers!), missing three potential birdies from 10 feet or less and landing a couple of shots in the bushes.
That being said, the week wasn’t a total loss for Morikawa–he got engaged to his girlfriend, Katherine Zhu, and was overjoyed to make the announcement.
Overall, the Hero World Championship was full of great golf–a great way to end off the year in professional golf events.
