A good, consistent grip can improve your slice, your ball striking, and give you a better game all around. Grip is just as important for putting and driving and is essential to playing the game well. Proper grip allows you to hit the ball consistently where you want to hit it.
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your grip.
Size Your Grips Properly
Golf clubs come with grips in a standard size that is generally suited to most people, but if you have particularly large or small hands, you can get larger or smaller grips accordingly to make holding your clubs more comfortable and easier for you.
Try Overlapping Grip
Overlapping grip has become the most popular way for golfers to grip their clubs because it gives you better wrist hinge and a solid grip. An overlapping grip, also called the Vardon grip, is when you place the pinkie finger of your right hand in between the index and middle finger of your left, connecting your two hands together that way.
Pressure
A common mistake that people make is gripping too hard. Gripping too tightly makes it easy to hit the ball with the heel of your club instead of the face. You want a soft and relaxed but firm grip, applying pressure with your thumb and letting the rest of your hand be looser. Try wiggling your club around in your hands a little when you first grip it in order to loosen up.
