The shoes you wear on the course can make a big difference. If you’re not wearing comfortable, well-fitting shoes, it is much harder to focus on your game and play your best. Here are the factors to consider when choosing golf shoes.
Materials
Natural Leather
Natural leather golf shoes are popular because they are extremely durable and will last a long time. They also mold to your feet and are naturally waterproof. Natural leather shoes are generally the most expensive option, but they do not need to be replaced as often as golf shoes made from other materials.
Synthetic Leather
Synthetic leather gives you the classic look of natural leather for a lower price. Synthetic leather is also thinner and lighter, as well as easier to clean. However, this material is not waterproof, does not mold to your foot the way natural leather does, and will not last as long as natural leather.
Breathable Fabrics
Golf shoes made of breathable fabrics are great for warmer days and dry conditions. These materials keep your feet cooler and comfortable even on the hottest days. They are typically an affordable option as well.
Styles
Traditional
Traditional golf shoes have a classic design and shape, similar to dress shoes. These are often made using natural leather.
Modern Spiked
Modern spiked golf shoes are lightweight and look like typical athletic shoes. They have spiked soles for extra traction and are designed for optimal performance.
Modern Spikeless
Modern spikeless golf shoes have a low profile and look similar to casual street shoes. They are very comfortable and great for days when you know you’ll be doing a lot of walking.
Sandals
Golf sandals are a good option for those very hot days when you want to stay comfortable on the course. Golf sandals are very breathable and lightweight. However, they do not offer the same level of support as other golf shoes and may not be optimal for performance.
Fit
When trying on your new golf shoes, it is important to make sure that you’re getting the right fit. The right shoe will fit snugly in the heel and midfoot, and you shouldn’t feel any pressure points or pain when you walk in them. You should have about ½” of room at the toe, but your foot should not be able to slide around in the shoe.
To check whether the fit is right, make sure that you try on your golf shoes with socks on. Try a couple of similar sizes in the same shoe and walk around in them a little to see which size feels more comfortable.
Once you’ve got the shoes, you’ll need golf balls to go with them! Check out our online store for used golf balls from all the most popular brands.
