After last year’s defending champion, Phil Mickelson, withdrew from the 2022 PGA Championship, fans were eager to see who would come out on top this weekend. Here are our most memorable moments from this year’s PGA Championship.
Justin Thomas Wins His 2nd PGA Championship
29-year-old Justin Thomas took home the win in a three-hole playoff against 25-year-old Will Zalatoris. This is Thomas’ second win of a PGA Championship–he was also the victor in 2017.The playoff will be best remembered for Thomas’ amazing tee shot, where he drove the par 17th green with his 3 wood and set himself up for a two-putt birdie.
Tiger Woods’ Return & Withdrawal
Tiger Woods hit an impressive score of 79 in Round 3, achieving his second-highest score in a major. However, after that, Woods withdrew from Round 4 and did not finish the championship due to injuries. Fans were happy to see Woods back at it for those first three rounds and we are all hoping that Woods makes a full recovery and gets back to full capacity again soon.
Mito Pereira’s Great Game…Almost
PGA-tour rookie Mito Pereira was in the lead from Friday to Sunday and played some outstanding golf in the first few rounds. However, after maintaining a lead against some of the best golfers in the world, when he reached the 72nd hole, the pressure got to be too much. At the 72ns hole, Periera landed his ball in the creek, which eventually led to a double-bogey 6 on the last hole. Despite the disappointing end for Pereira, he played a strong game and we can’t wait to see him play again next year.
