Tiger Woods fans were disappointed to hear that he would be pulling out of the 2022 Hero World Challenge due to a foot injury that developed while practicing for the championship.
Woods’ Statement
Woods explained his decision to withdraw on Twitter in a statement that said, “In preparation and practice for this week’s Hero World Challenge, I’ve developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which is making it difficult to walk. After consulting with my doctors and trainers, I have decided to withdraw this week and focus on my hosting duties. My plan is still to compete in The Match and the PNC Championship.”
Plantar fasciitis is a type of inflammation of the tissue that connects the heel bone to the toe bones, and can cause severe foot pain. It is a common injury in golfers and other types of athletes.
The Month Ahead
The 2022 Hero World Challenge was set to be the first of three golf events Woods would be participating in this December. While Woods has withdrawn from the Hero World Challenge, he is currently still slated to golf in a for-television match with Rory McIlroy as his partner and the PNC Championship (alongside his 13-year-old son) later this month, so Woods fans will hopefully still get to watch him play before the new year.
Woods has had to drop out of a number of golf events in the past couple of years after a car accident that left him with severe injuries in early 2021. He has made a lot of progress since the car accident, though, and fans hope to see him continue to strengthen his game and get back on the course.
