Because of a car accident that left him injured in February 2021, Tiger Woods has not played a pro golf event since 2020. This year’s Masters at Augusta National marks his return to pro golf, and fans couldn’t be more excited.
Woods’ Long Road to Recovery
Since Woods’ car accident that left his right leg so injured there was initially talk of amputation, he has had a long path to full recovery. The past 14 months have been spent on recovering from surgery, physical rehab, and slowly getting back out on the course to practice. In December, Woods delighted fans by playing the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, but the 2022 Masters is the first real competitive tour event that Woods has participated in since 2020.
Woods fans have been waiting eagerly to find out whether he would play in this year’s Masters, and the announcement that he would came just a few days before the tournament’s kickoff.
2022 Masters: Round One
The first round of the 2022 Masters kicked off on April 7th, and Woods has already made an impact with his return to Augusta National. Was it the best golf we’ve seen Woods play? No. After all, he’s been off the professional course for two years, he’s bound to be a little rusty. What we loved seeing was Woods’ old characteristic perseverance and determination, which led him to a one-under-par score of 71 by the end of the round.
We saw little glints of Woods’ old magic in this round, and can’t wait to see how he fares in the rest of the championship. After the end of the first round, Woods told the press “I’m right where I need to be.”
