This year’s Farmers Insurance Open took place from January 26th to 29th, 2022 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. Viewers were pleased with a weekend of exceptional golf and a first-time PGA tour event win for 37-year-old Luke List.
Luke List’s Victory
Luke List earned his first PGA tour card back in 2012 through the Korn Ferry Tour, and a decade later in 2022 he finally earned his first PGA victory at the Farmers Insurance Open. After shooting 66, List had to wait almost two hours to find out whether his score was enough for a win. Upon realizing his victory, List’s wife and two children immediately ran to the green to celebrate with him, when he told them “Daddy won the trophy.” This win moves List to fourth in the FedExCup.
Will Zalatoris’ Steady Game–Up Until the End
While Will Zalatoris did not win the open, his game was still a definite highlight of the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open. Many people expected Zalatoris to claim the victory, and he seemed to be in control all day, in first place for most of the time. However, after 11 straight pars, Zalatoris was faced with an 8-foot birdie putt to win it. The putt veered left at the last second, marking the moment that would secure a win for List. Despite Zalatoris succumbing to what CBS’s Nick Faldo referred to as the putting “jiggly-wigglies,” he played a solid, steady game that showcased his skill and savvy as a pro golfer.
