The 2021 summer Olympic Games—which are technically the 2020 Olympics, just delayed a year due to the pandemic—will be going on without Adam Scott. Scott made the decision to withdraw his name from consideration for the Olympic Games this year. Scott had been slated to represent Australia in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but now that the games will be taking place July 23rd to August 8th, 2021, Scott has made the decision not to participate due to scheduling and personal conflicts.
Reasons for Opting Out
Adam Scott’s hectic travel schedule and lack of opportunity for family time is the main reason why he made the decision to opt out of the Olympics this year. The 2013 Masters champion has a packed pro golf schedule this summer and will be spending a lot of time away from his wife and three young children. The stretch of time when the Olympic Games are being held is the only opportunity that Scott has to spend an extended period of time with his family until October, so he has made the choice to devote that time to being with his children.
Dustin Johnson is another notable golf pro who opted out of the 2021 Olympic Games due to schedule conflicts.
Who Will Take Scott’s Place at the Olympics?
With Scott officially out of the running for Olympic golf this year, It’s looking like Australia’s representatives are likely to be Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith. Cameron Smith came in second place at this year’s Masters and is enthusiastic about playing in the summer’s Olympic Games, stating “I really can’t wait to get over there. I know it’s going to be a bit of a different Olympics but, still we can be there and be around different athletes and watch a few things. It’ll be really cool.”
