Know Your Club’s Dress Code
First things first, make sure that you know exactly what the dress code at your chosen golf club entails. It is important to familiarize yourself with this to ensure that any apparel you buy for golfing is appropriate for the specific course where you play.
Gloves
You should invest in some good golf gloves. These are especially important when playing in wet weather because they prevent slipping, but gloves also improve your grip in perfect weather. Choose a pair that fits well—many newbies buy gloves that are too big, and their scores suffer because of it. If you find that your hands get too hot, opt for fingerless gloves for more breathability.
Shoes
When choosing golf shoes, comfort is the most important thing. You’re going to be walking in your shoes quite a lot, and if they pinch or rub uncomfortably, it will negatively affect your game. Seriously, if you have blisters by the final hole, you are not going to be playing your best. Pick shoes that fit well and still feel good after a few hours of walking. It is also a good idea to have a pair of waterproof golf shoes for early morning games or days when the weather is less than ideal. Keep in mind that most club dress codes prohibit shoes with any kind of spikes on the sole because they will damage the green.

Polo Shirt
Most golf clubs require a shirt with a collar, and you want something that is comfortable and doesn’t restrict movement, which is why polo shirts are the best choice for golf apparel. Choose a breathable material that will keep you cool even after you start to sweat. Invest in a few good polos with both short and long sleeves so that you’re covered for different weather.
Quick Fabric Guide
Cotton
A 100% cotton polo shirt is a classic in golf apparel style. This fabric is super comfortable, durable, and breathable when dry, plus cotton polo shirts are very easy to wash. However, there are drawbacks–cotton golf shirts are great while they’re fully dry, but if you work up a sweat in this fabric, the moisture will absorb into the fabric and may leave you feeling damp and uncomfortable.
Synthetic Materials
Synthetic materials have performance technology that wicks away moisture and dries quickly, which means you don’t have to worry about being soaked with your own sweat all day. However, synthetic materials can be itchy, stiff, and less comfortable than natural fibers, plus they are not as eco-friendly.
Bamboo
Bamboo fabrics give you the natural comfort of cotton and the moisture-wicking properties of synthetic materials. Since bamboo is a natural fiber, it is soft, breathable, and eco-friendly. It also has moisture-wicking, fast-drying properties, so when you sweat the moisture won’t stick around, and you’ll feel drier than in cotton.
Pants/Shorts
We recommend khaki slacks or shorts for golf because they are dress code appropriate and made of breathable fabric that isn’t restrictive. Opt for lighter colors when you are playing on a hot day to keep your temperature optimal. Make sure you choose something that has good pockets so that you can keep a few extra tees and balls in reach. Most club dress codes also require a belt to be worn.
