1. They’re Cheap
Who doesn’t love a good deal? Brand new golf balls are expensive, and they become used the moment you hit them. So why not just buy already used balls at half the price of new? And if you just want a lot of practice balls and aren’t too fussy about the condition they’re in, you can get a good quantity of those for a fraction of the price of new balls.
2. You’re Going to Lose a Lot of Them
Look, you’re going to lose a lot of your golf balls anyway. We don’t mean that as an insult. Even the very best golfers lose their fair share of balls when practicing and playing, it’s just a fact of the game.
Losing brand new, expensive balls can hurt and feel like you’re throwing good money into a pond (or wherever that darn ball went). It’s a lot easier to accept losing balls when you didn’t pay an arm and a leg for them.
3. You Can’t Tell the Difference From New Balls
Many of our mint condition balls haven’t been used more than once. There is really no noticeable difference between a good quality mint condition used ball and a totally new golf ball—other than the price, of course! You’re really not missing anything if you skip the new golf balls and opt for good quality used ones instead.
4. It’s Better for the Environment
The manufacturing of plastics is harsh on the environment, uses energy, and produces waste, so the more we can reuse our golf balls instead of producing new ones, the happier the planet will be. Not only that, but golf courses get cleaned up by those collecting used balls to resell. If there weren’t people out there collecting lost golf balls for folks to reuse, there would be a lot more plastic waste as a result of golfing.
5. They’re Not Waterlogged
A lot of people’s main concern about used balls is the possibility that they might be waterlogged, so listen up: they’re not. This may have been true back in the day, but now golf balls are made with hard plastic cores that do not get damaged by water, so you’ve got nothing to worry about.
